DVD 7304 MOZART GALA

With all due respect to Cecilia Bartoli and Thomas Hampson, I think the dazzler on this DVD is the opening work, Mozart's Piano Concerto No 25 played by Dame Mitsuko Uchida, with the Wiener Philharmoniker and Riccardo Muti. Reviews of Cecilia's "Exsultate, jubilate" are often lukewarm, but [while she'll never be everybody's favourite) they are a bit unkind. Uchida also accompanies her in "Ch'io ti scordi di me" and that's the killer. Also on the disc, unsuspected by most given Premiere's titling, are the Haffner Symphony [35], the Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola [Kremer and Bashmet], and, of course Tom. A true gala.
