Sorry, but I can't agree with the other reviewer

One of the very few Premiere offerings I'm sorry I bought. Firstly, the disc structure is faulty. It's laid out in three sections, and "access" to them is limited to a frame at the end, which cannot in fact be accessed. I have two machines: one will only play Section 1. The other plays all three, 1-1,2-1,3-1,1-2, etc. but the quality is amazingly variable. Secondly, it is unfair to describe it as "very good in-house recording" - the offerings with piano are very poor, and one is blank with weak sound and a click. I presume it's the Wesendonck excerpt - can't find it otherwise, and it was why I bought the disc in the first place. Some are in fine condition but you'd be better off buying a full disc - say, the Wagner concert with Thielemann, and forgetting this. Sorry, Ed.

If Premiere were to start a "Golden Disc" series, this one would be a prime candidate. They have presented a very generous compilation of Kaufmann's art and, though they label it "Recital Excerpts" is really contains items from recitals, concerts and stage performances. There are many standout performances; the arias from Rienzi, Fidelio, and the Ingemisco among them. (The first item, an operetta duet sung in English, was a pleasant surprise.) The sound quality is excellent as is the picture, though a few of the recital works are via hand held camera causing some jiggery, but this is minimal and it's the singing that is important anyway. Premiere has made the disc user friendly by providing a thumbnail menu for each item. Bravo, Premiere.
