DVD 10860 THE DAVID FROST SHOW

unavailable
Price: $8.95
Sale Price: $4.95
TV 4/10/69 - David’s only guest for the entire episode is Jack Benny.   This episode was part of a 2 week series of shows recorded in Hollywood rather than New York (where the shows usually originated from). “The show ran for three years and during this time David also had a weekly variety program in England and jetted back and forth between shows. (This became a great storyline and was used in Here's Lucy television show as an episode, starring David Frost himself, with the Billy Taylor Orchestra providing music). Produced by the Westinghouse Group, The David Frost Show, got its start when Merv Griffin left the afternoon and evening syndication for a late-night network run on , making room for Frost's program to fill the gap. When Merv returned, Frost's program folded”. Producer’s copy-has space holders where the commercials would have been inserted.   In color.   90 minutes.

Ah, memories...

I was surprised when Premiere started offering non-operatic material some time ago and, other than the ballet discs, most of it is of little interest to me. Not this one, however. This hour and a half of Jack Benny is sheer delight. David Frost was always an astute interviewer and knew when to keep quiet. In this program he gently prods Jack with questions and allows the great comedian to just ramble on. As someone who remembers listening to him on the radio and later seeing his TV shows, this is a wonderful souvenir. Anyone out there who, almost incredibly, is unfamiliar with Jack Benny will have an opportunity to see and hear a wonderful artist whose comedy came from above the belt rather than below it. Commercials have been deleted. Good color picture and sound. So, what's not to like? Enjoy.
