DVD 10217 INTERMEZZO (Strauss)

I was very happy with this DVD. It's a very watchable performance from Munich filmed in black and white in the Cuivillies Theatre with a first rate cast. Hanny Steffek had a respectable European career and two EMI recordings but is probably not a singer familiar to most opera lovers in the US. She is just perfect for the lead soprano roles of Christine. Hermann Prey is as good as it gets as her husband. All other roles are well done. The sound is surprisingly clear. This is a winner. Too bad no subtitles when there is so much dialogue.
