DVD 10036 LE COMTE ORY (Rossini)

This production compares favorably, as already noted, with the outstanding Glydebourne and Met productions. Great cast!

A little to my surprise, I enjoyed this performance. Zurich is not usually my choice of venues. The sound and picture are very good. The acting and singing were first class and I already know the opera so a lack of subtitles was no big deal. However I am still unsure just how Countess Adele fitted into the first act. The Glyndebourne Disc is still my favourite, with this and the Met performance following quite closely.

Humorous updated production with the outstanding Cecilia Bartoli and an excellent ensemble cast. Excellent sound and video quality.
