This was indeed a nice surprise,I did'nt think Stader would be able to sustain the tessitura of this role,but there she is,up with the best of them,no screaming on top notes,nice portrayal,Haefliger was also a nice surprise,I had only heard him in Mozart before,again beautifully sung,F-D fairly new to the Opera stage in 1953 sings well without the "preciousness"he later tended to have.All in all a very good performance.
