Tis a pity that caballe never recorded Il Trovatore in the studio,but never mind there are a number of fantastic performances of her in this opera available on "pirate"issues.This and the one from Covent Garden are the ones to have (I have not investigated the others-yet!)Zanasi makes a great Conte di Luna,I only knew him from the Callas Traviata from Lisbon,but this shows him in his glory,Mattiucci did not record much,which is a pity as she is a fantastic Azucena in the Cossotto mould,Tucker sings every aspect of the role of Manrico wonderfully,from "Deserto in Terra"in the 1st.act like the lover he is portraying,to the magnificent "Pira"where he belts out those high "C"s like theres no tomorrow,Caballe is a dream as Leonora,using every weopon in her vast arsenal to give us a performance from heaven.
