0139-2 LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR (Donizetti)

The 1955 Lucia with this cast is better known and indeed is great. But this performance from a year or so earlier finds Callas in even better voice. Both E-flats are here and they are stunning. The performance has not survived complete (i.e. some of the Mad Scene is missing, but not the cadenza or final cabaletta). The sound isn't great, but we've all heard worse. Premiere Opera's transfer is pitched correctly. If you love Callas, you need to get this!
